THE SCIENCE OLYMPIAD SERIES CLUB

A Club for Children within school with free life membership from November 14 th 2006..  

THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS CLUB
This Club will have series of program focuses on stimulating young school children‘s intellectual curiosity and developing their skills in the field of science. These challenging and motivational events are well balanced between the various science disciplines of physics, chemistry, biology, earth science, computers, technology, science facts, concepts, processes, skills, and science applications.  

To contribute more innovative Scientific projects under the guidance of the experts in the field of science will be the main focus of this club.

OUR FOCUS
This Club will function totally under the guidance of the School Principal and will have activities within their School premises (where the parents feel their Children are safe) initially every quarter when they break for a Quarterly, half yearly and Annual holidays with information in advance. The activities will comprise of both THEORY TEST CALLED SCIENCE OLYMPIAD SERIES and Practical Science workshops during the holidays without disturbing the regular education system in Schools

VALUE TO SCHOOLS
Participating schools will find this Olympiad a welcome change from the conventional knowledge processes. Schools will be able to identify hidden and latent talent among their students which will help them modify specific pedagogical processes for better results. Collective participation in future academic endeavors will be more result oriented from activities like these.

WHY OUTSOURCE THIS ACTIVITY?
Schools have made tremendous contribution to the knowledge building processes of their students. Their structured curriculum takes a tremendous effort on the part of the teachers to impart subject knowledge. This goes a long way in building the scientific temper and thinking in the minds of our young students.

To add value to the teaching processes of the schools it will be useful to develop a competitive activity of subject learning and make it as interesting to the students as Sports would do. The structured curriculum may not, many times permit in scope, time (or) resources to engage in these activities for the betterment of the students.

EXTERNAL ORGANISATIONS HAVE THE ADVANTAGE OF FLEXIBILITY ,  
access and networking to put together such interesting activities .Appropriate domain expertise is also available in many cases.

In the light of all the above, we believe that there exists a justification to outsource such activities to competent organizations.

VALUE TO STUDENTS
The Student Members once they participate in  this Olympiad series activities will gain a tremendous knowledge of science by new knowledge acquisition and/or reinforcement of existing knowledge. The unique method of our Olympiad will trigger an insatiable knowledge acquisition process among students. There will be great impetus on reference learning than repetitive learning. Students will be pleasantly surprised by the discoveries they make about themselves.

MEMBERSHIP
The membership is strictly through the School only and every activities will be announced through the Schools who are the advisory Panel members of this club. We have divided the Student Members into two Groups and wish to restrict the activities for that Group only.

Juniors : Class 6- Class7
Seniors : Class 8- Class9

The Students who  enroll as the member of the club ( Membership Free) will get a    booklet   called   “Passport  to Science Olympiad Series” with information on further activities of the club. They would get it stamped whenever they get to participate in the time to time activities of the Club.

We intend to bring CORPORATE SUPPORT to reduce the cost of participation
It is a new and increasing belief among the commercial organizations that they need to exercise their commitments towards projects and programmes of national importance.

Many corporate bodies are engaged in such activities without attracting major publicity beyond the relevant universe of people. Corporate bodies are now being increasingly perceived as responsible citizens with commitments to nationally and socially relevant causes.

It is increasingly accepted that nation building is a collective responsibility and activity of all types of institutions, commercial and non commercial organizations, Government and Non government organizations, individuals and other groups. When such organizations are coming forward to contribute their share of responsibility to such human  resource developmental activities, we believe, it is in the fitness of things that they are welcomed into the collective action  of this club.

THE FIRST ACTIVITY OF THE CLUB -Science Olympiad series 1

SCIENCE OLYMPIAD SERIES 1
is a parallel competition open to all Students Members  irrespective of the Educational system with an idea to impart Knowledge for all the members of the Club. The exclusive and uniqueness of the program is that it is compulsory that one of the parent of the participating student members should also participate in the program along with the students.

HOW ARE WE DIFFERENT?
Once the members enroll for the Series-1 Contest , they would be given the Question Bank they are going to face for the contest  without the option in advance, so that the preparation is focused phase wise.  

This will be given to them before they are set for their half yearly holidays. They get to prepare for the same during holidays and the test will happen the FIRST SUNDAY WHEN THE SCHOOL RE-OPENS IN THEIR RESPECTIVE SCHOOL PREMISES.

The Questions are the same in the contest  but with the options and time frame. .

MODUS OPERANDI
Two different objective type questionnaires prepared by a team of educationalists and Scientists are given separately to the student and the parent for them to reveal their talents.

Questionnaire Type 1 is Science based - for Students.

Questionnaire Type 2 is for the parents to UNDERSTAND the importance of their   involvement in motivating their children to participate in such programs.

Fee: There is a fee of Rs.25/- per Child with her participating parent for a commitment and the money collected will be utilsed for the Club activities.

As a Phase two activity we are planning for major Science Workshops which would be practical sessions with a aim –try it yourself during the Annual leave period.

Benefits to the Sponsors
This event reaches the entire school student community of Chennai along with their parents.  
In the first phase the competition is to be conducted for 15 schools in the city.
In every school around 600 students are expected to participate along with their parents, which makes the total 1,800 entries in a school.
Therefore a minimum of 18,000 entries are expected to be present in the first phase. Which gives the direct visibility of sponsor to this participants.
The sponsor’s brand recall is achieved through booklet “Passport  to Science Olympiad Series”, which is distributed to every participants with details of the club activities..
This event is repeated in and around Chennai in second phase.
